Pixelmator – Great photo editor

BY: JD

So the other day I was looking over some sites and happened to find a huge list of different Mac apps for designer.  One of them caught my eye, Pixelmator.  It stated that Pixelmator was Photoshop for the rest of us, as you can see in the slogan under the logo.

I have not been using Pixelmator for about 30days now and found out some really great stuff about it.  First of this is not a full Photoshop replacement app, nor does it want to be.  Pixelmator is geared for image editing, as such it does not have line or shape tools.  It does have a great array of tools for adding some awesome effects to images and even correcting problems.

Pixelmator is $59 which is really cheap compared to photoshop.  It offers some great tutorials right on the site @ pixelmator.com/learn.

GetClicky

Just wanted to make a quick post on GetClicky.com

I have been using Getclicky.com for over 6months now and I have found it to be a really great tool for my websites. Some great features that it has is the ability to see what people are doing on your site Live! Meaning you can see what links people are clicking as they do it.

GetClicky Application is hosted on there own server so you will not need to install anything or manage it. You can find a feature comparison here.

Also to find out more about the features that Getclicky.com offers go here.

Kiwi Syslog – Free Version

BY: JD

After dealing with our new firewall at work, I noticed that Kiwi syslog is no longer free.  So I went searching for the free version and found the the old kiwi sites are now parked some where and they have moved.

I found the older version that was free on a download site and thought I would upload it here for everyone to use.

How to take Full length Screen Shots of Webpages

BY: JD

As some of you might know I love firefox!  One of the things that is great about firefox, is that allows you to install addon or extensions.  These addons improve and enhance the usefulness of firefox and make it so you don’t need to use mulitple programs to do simple tasks.

On task that I do often is taking screen shots of websites for posting and for sharing with others. One great tool that I found for this is ScreengrabScreengrab several options that allows you to make quick screen shots of what ever site you want.

Examples of how to do use it and what it can do:

Complete page (jd7.org) warning over 1MB in size

As you can see its quiet large.

Visible Part

Selection

These were all done using the save option but you can use the copy option if you just want to select something while your using Photoshop or another design application.

Hope you find this helpful :)

The Beginning of Something…

BY: JD

Starting out on my first real blog.

My name is JD, guess that’s a good place to start.  I am an all-around geek that has been messing with computers for about 10 years now.  I started off really getting down and dirty with an old 486 Dx learning all the parts and asking tons of questions.

I am now currently a Network Manager for a company in Tennessee, been with them for about 2 years now.  Before this I was a Network Engineer, working on anything from IP Phone systems to Multi-Server data center.   I have worked on many different firewall systems and mainly work on Windows based Servers.

So why am I starting a blog?

Well I wanted a place where I can share ideas, post stuff that I find on the vast internet, share my experiences with all the other geeks in the world.  I am the kind of person that will never admit that I know it all and I really never want to stop learning.   Couple things though, I am Dyslexic so if you see any typos or miss spelling please let me know in comments. Dyslexia is something I have dealt with my whole life and “Word” cant find all grammatical errors

So I think we should start this baby up.
